Thierry Henry sends a warning to Arsenal ahead of Premier League showdown with Man City
Arsenal take on Man City in a crucial title clash.
Thierry Henry stated that Arsenal cannot replicate the type of performance he has seen from the Gunners this season when facing Manchester City in a significant Premier League title showdown.
Mikel Arteta’s squad heads to the Etihad Stadium with a six-point lead in the title race, having six matches remaining.
City have a game in hand and were victorious in their last encounter, a Carabao Cup final where they won 2-0.
Arsenal reached the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday night in unspectacular fashion, drawing goalless and advancing after a narrow 1-0 win against Sporting Lisbon in the first leg last week.
Henry still believes the Gunners can clinch the Premier League title — their first since 2004 — but insists they must bring the “fire” that Arteta has previously mentioned to deliver a performance worthy of the trophy.
“I believe what [Arteta] is saying, but when you talk like that you have to do it,” the former Arsenal legend remarked on CBS.
“I didn’t witness that effort tonight [against Sporting]. We’re through, and I’m very happy. But I want the league. Go and win at Man City. I want to see that fire. I believe, but show it.”
“I hope the performance against City isn’t like tonight or against Brighton, Bournemouth, or Mansfield, or anything I’ve seen this season.”
When questioned if the performance against Sporting would suffice against Man City, Henry chuckled.
“We’re discussing a team that has won four in a row,” he added.
“Liverpool interrupted that, but otherwise, it would’ve been more.”
“I want to see that fire at the Etihad. It’s easy to talk. Go there, at Man City, and deliver. I would even bring it if necessary.”
“I do believe we can win the league. This is their biggest opportunity not just to silence the critics, but to prove as a team that they can.”
“Then, people won’t talk about bottling. I heard ‘fire’. I want to see that fire at the Etihad.”
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher also critiqued Arsenal’s display against Sporting at the Emirates Stadium.
“I’m uncertain if they possess enough quality in attack,” Carragher commented.
“The match indicated that Arsenal lacks those pivotal players in attack.”
“In the crucial moments of the season, even though I’ve predicted Arsenal to win, I don’t see a team claiming the Champions League without a standout player in the front four. They haven’t got one.”
