Roberto De Zerbi shares thoughts on Tottenham’s fight against relegation following disappointing draw with Brighton
Spurs remain in the drop zone and showed significant improvement against the Seagulls despite dropping points.
Roberto De Zerbi believes Tottenham can win all five of their remaining Premier League matches despite conceding a last-minute equalizer to Brighton.
Spurs remain winless in the league this calendar year after Georginio Rutter scored in the 95th minute to earn Brighton a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
De Zerbi has gathered just one point from his first two matches in charge, leaving Spurs struggling in the relegation zone, but he emphasized the positives from a challenging evening.
“Brighton is a very good team. They are performing well right now. But I believe we deserved to win the game, particularly given we conceded a goal in extra time due to losing the ball in our possession,” said De Zerbi after the match.
“Nonetheless, I'm very proud of my players’ performance. They displayed their utmost effort, the right mentality, and character.”
“We played well with the ball. We may have been better in the first half without the ball, as we struggled more with possession in the second half.”
Spurs have five matches remaining to salvage their season, with 17th-place West Ham poised to move four points clear of the drop zone with a win over Crystal Palace on Monday.
De Zerbi remains confident that Spurs can secure victories in all of their upcoming matches following a spirited display.
“We have five more games. It’s tough. Everyone recognizes this difficult moment, but we have 15 points available,” De Zerbi said.
“This team has the capability to win five games consecutively. It may be challenging to accept my words, but if you observe the players and analyze their quality, I believe we can achieve that.”
“I'm not trying to be arrogant; I’m just stating we possess enough quality to compete and win consecutively.”
