Liverpool: Ornstein shares major news on Slot as FSG is contacted about Manchester United manager candidate

David Ornstein has shared an important update on Arne Slot’s tenure at Liverpool, indicating that Julian Nagelsmann’s team has made contact.

Slot had a stellar first season at Liverpool, leading the team to their 20th Premier League title.

However, the Reds have struggled to defend their title effectively, placing Slot under considerable pressure this season.

While several factors have impacted Liverpool's performance, Slot has faced criticism for his tactical decisions and approach.

Support for Slot has waned among fans, but Ornstein reports that the club's board is inclined to retain him beyond this season.

Ornstein mentioned on The Athletic FC podcast: “All of our information is that FSG, the ownership, the sporting hierarchy at Liverpool – they intend to stick with Arne Slot.”

“From the conversations I’ve had – even if there’s no Champions League football – that’s the intention.”

Contrarily, other sources suggest differing narratives regarding Slot's future. TEAMtalk reports that he is facing a ‘six-game audition to save his job.'

The report further notes: ‘A thorough end-of-season review from FSG’s football chief, Michael Edwards, and sporting director Richard Hughes is already in progress, assessing Slot's position alongside the squad's overall performance and project direction.

‘Although signs suggest Slot might stay, a managerial change remains a possibility. He will need to secure a top-five Premier League finish to guarantee Champions League qualification, as failure may jeopardize his role.’

Club legend Xabi Alonso has emerged as a potential successor for Slot, amidst links to multiple alternatives.

This includes Germany's current head coach Julian Nagelsmann, who is expected to return to club management post-World Cup.

Nagelsmann is also being linked with a move to Manchester United to replace interim boss Michael Carrick, as reported by TEAMtalk. His team has reportedly made inquiries to other Premier League clubs.

The report notes: ‘United are not alone. TEAMtalk can reveal that Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City have all been approached regarding Nagelsmann’s situation.

‘While these clubs maintain no managerial changes are currently anticipated, the inquiries indicate significant interest in the German and efforts to position him for a possible move.’
