Frank Lampard responds to questions about Coventry City’s interest in signing a Chelsea forward.
Coventry City have been linked with the signing of Jesse Derry from Chelsea.
Coventry City are just one point away from earning their place back in the Premier League after a 25-year absence.
The Sky Blues have faced two narrow misses in the last three seasons, losing in the play-off final in 2023 and in the semi-finals in 2025.
Frank Lampard’s side are now on the brink of sealing a top two finish in the Championship, just six points away from potentially winning the title with four games remaining.
The club is already turning its focus to the upcoming summer transfer window, having almost secured their spot in the top flight.
Coventry aims to build a team for sustained success in the Premier League, drawing lessons from Sunderland and Leeds United, who have established themselves in the division.
Teamtalk has reported that Chelsea's young talent Jesse Derry is among the club’s targets as the transfer window approaches.

Lampard indicated that Coventry isn’t far along in their summer window planning, despite being close to promotion, explaining his current focus on the league matches ahead.
He noted that there might be some validity to the interest in the 18-year-old, who has yet to establish himself within the Blues' academy.
Addressing transfer planning, he remarked, via Coventry Live: “Not that far, if I’m honest, because of the jeopardy of the season.
“It seems that things have become clearer recently, but my attention remains on the tasks at hand.
“Regarding individual players, I’m not claiming all rumors are untrue, but they aren’t necessarily facts either.
“That’s one challenge in football now, recruitment. You need good players to succeed.
“The club has managed well given our position in the Championship, considering spending and more.
“We’re not a parachute team but have a plan that’ll evolve this summer, especially if we achieve our goals because the quality will need to improve.
“A lot of work still lies ahead, and I wouldn’t take the current rumors too seriously, with all due respect.”
Coventry last competed in the top flight in 2001, while Lampard was coaching at that level as recently as 2023 during his second Chelsea stint.
He began his managerial journey in the Championship with Derby County and became Chelsea's head coach in 2019, returning in 2023 after managing Everton briefly.
This would mark his first promotion to the Premier League as a manager, with his squad needing just a single point from their final four games.
Derry has made an impression at the youth level for Chelsea, having made his senior debut in a 4-0 FA Cup victory against Hull City earlier this season, and played in their 4-2 win over Wrexham in the fifth round.

Jesse Derry signing could be smart business but won’t be enough for Premier League survival
Bringing Derry on loan could be a savvy acquisition for Coventry, provided he can transition effectively to senior football.
Nevertheless, the club must invest significantly in the first team to ensure Premier League survival.
Lampard is acutely aware of what it takes to compete at the highest level, and his experience will be crucial in recruitment.
As it’s only April, not having targets fully lined up isn’t a significant concern; real work will commence once their position in the top two is confirmed.
