Meet Everton FC’s New Owners: Who Are They?
After months of ongoing speculation about the club’s future, Everton has finally secured new owners.
The Toffees, who will relocate to their new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock at the end of the season, have been flirting with relegation for the last three seasons in the Premier League but can now look forward to a more stable future.
Point deductions, high-profile transfer issues, and subpar recruitment have all been part of the Everton experience. With new investment and optimism on the horizon, FourFourTwo examines the new leadership making waves on Merseyside…
Who is Everton’s new owner?
American businessman Dan Friedkin is poised to take over as Everton’s new owner after acquiring Farhad Moshiri’s 91.4% stake in the club, marking the end of Moshiri’s eight-year tenure on Merseyside.
Originally from San Diego, California, Friedkin earned his Bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University. He is the son of billionaire Thomas H. Friedkin, who established Gulf States Toyota Distributors.
Additionally, Friedkin Jr. remains actively involved in their Toyota distribution, and at one time, sales from the company represented 13% of all Toyota sales in the US. By the age of 35, Dan was managing operations.
The Friedkin Group boasts a diverse portfolio, described as a “privately held consortium of businesses and investments in automotive, hospitality, entertainment, sports, and adventure industries”.
Dan also owns Neon, an independent film studio responsible for producing acclaimed films like Parasite. His broader film endeavors include Imperative Entertainment, a production company behind Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, The Mule, The Square, and Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World.
Since 2020, TFG has owned Serie A club Roma, acquiring it for approximately £550m, and their deal for Everton is expected to be in a similar range. Friedkin’s 34-year-old son, Ryan, is a passionate football fan who plays an essential role at the Italian club.
What have The Friedkin Group said about their takeover?
Hope abounds for a bright future with the Toffees, as TFG has already communicated their enthusiasm for taking charge on Merseyside shortly.
They expressed: “We are pleased to have reached an agreement to become custodians of this iconic football club. “We are focused on securing the necessary approvals to complete the transaction. We look forward to providing stability to the club, and sharing our vision for its future, including the completion of the new Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.”
