Manchester City Defender Resumes Training Following Recovery from Injury During International Break

John Stones has resumed training with Manchester City ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash with Arsenal.

The 31-year-old picked up a calf injury while on international duty with England, sidelining him during City's recent victories over Liverpool and Chelsea in the FA Cup and league.

Stones is anticipated to depart Manchester City when his contract expires in June, with Everton reportedly keen to reunite with the six-time Premier League champion, a decade after his tenure with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

Stones back in training as Arsenal clash approaches

City is likely to field a centre-back duo of Marc Guehi and Abdukodir Khusanov against Arsenal, as Josko Gvardiol continues his recovery from surgery on a tibial fracture and Ruben Dias remains out due to a hamstring strain.

Stones was brought back to City during the recent international break to undergo additional tests to evaluate his calf injury, missing the games against Liverpool and Chelsea.

Following a fitness update from Guardiola regarding Nico O’Reilly and Dias during a press conference on Friday, Stones was seen participating in training with Manchester City ahead of their crucial game with Arsenal.

Will Stones feature against Arsenal?

Given the high stakes for Manchester City in the Premier League title race, Stones is unlikely to start on Sunday. The Blues have narrowed the gap to Arsenal to six points after the Gunners’ recent setback against Bournemouth.

A victory could deliver a significant blow to Mikel Arteta’s side as City aim for their fourth consecutive win and another triumph over Arsenal, having previously defeated them in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley in March.

Bernardo Silva has confirmed his departure from Manchester City at the end of the season, and it is expected that Stones will also announce his future plans soon, with no contract renewal anticipated at the Etihad Stadium.
