Manchester United Finalizes Agreement for First Signing Under Ruben Amorim: Report
Manchester United has made their initial acquisition during the Ruben Amorim era.
Since the Portuguese manager’s appointment last month, the Red Devils have secured only a single victory in the Premier League. Last Saturday, Nottingham Forest comfortably defeated Amorim’s team, followed by news on Sunday regarding Dan Ashworth’s departure from the club after just a few months in the sporting director position.
Despite the recent upheaval, Manchester United has finalized their first transfer as Amorim aims to rejuvenate a fatigued squad.
Manchester United has secured a deal for a promising young talent
It is believed that United aims to make significant signings next month; however, with financial limitations in place, they may need to offload some players first.
Players such as Antony and Marcus Rashford are being considered for transfer – yet a smaller deal has been finalized, as the 20-time English champions prepare for the future with Amorim.
Following reports about teenage sensation Diego Leon potentially joining the team, Paraguayan journalist Pedro Torres has confirmed that a deal has been reached.
However, the fee has reportedly increased, with Paraguayan football analyst Roberto Rojas stating that United will pay approximately $6 million. Journalist Uriel Iugt claimed a post on X (formerly Twitter) mentioning that the transfer fee would be $5m, shortly after Paraguayan source D Sports claimed it would be just $4m.
“Can confirm that left-back Diego Leon will officially join Manchester United in June 2025, once he turns 18, for a transfer fee of approximately $6m,” Rojas stated. “Leon will remain at Cerro Porteño for another six months before becoming the first-ever Paraguayan to represent the Red Devils.”
eScored believes that while this is certainly a move for the future, Sporting star Geovany Quenda’s success demonstrates that Leon could seamlessly integrate with the squad at Old Trafford.
Ranked no.39 in eScored’s list of the most exciting teenagers to watch this season, Quenda became a staple in the squad under Amorim at the age of 17. There’s no reason Leon couldn’t achieve similar senior minutes next season, particularly given the current lack of depth in those positions.
Leon is valued at just €1m according to Transfermarkt. United will face Manchester City this weekend in the Manchester Derby when the Premier League action resumes.
