‘It means the world’ – Coventry City players praise fans and club’s dedication after achieving Premier League promotion

Coventry City has achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years after a 1–1 draw with Blackburn Rovers, where Bobby Thomas equalized Ryoya Morishita’s opening goal.

Thomas, who scored the crucial goal, shifted the spotlight from himself to the supporters as Coventry celebrated their return to the top flight.

He remarked: “It’s been such a long time since this club has been in the Premier League, so we’re just happy we can give the supporters something to shout about. They backed us the whole way. It’s been a long 25 years for them, so to do this for the fans means everything.”

Midfielder Matt Grimes reiterated these feelings, highlighting the teamwork that contributed to Coventry’s improvement in recent years. He stated: “It’s been a project over the last few years, building the squad and adding the right players. To achieve this now is massive for everyone involved.”

Despite the celebrations, Thomas recognized the challenge posed by Blackburn, who were also battling at the other end of the table.

“We knew they’d be tough. They’re fighting for their lives as well, so they had a big incentive to come here and win. A point for us is brilliant.”

Coventry’s next goal is to clinch the Championship title with three games left, but after 25 years, their long-desired return to the Premier League is finally assured.
