It was somewhat unexpected when TNT Sports’ cameras zoomed in on the former striker enjoying the match.

The clash also coincided with Lineker’s 65th birthday, prompting well wishes from commentators Darren Fletcher and Ally McCoist.

It’s well-known that Lineker supports Leicester City, a topic he often shares on his podcast, The Rest Is Football.

As an avid football enthusiast, it does seem peculiar for him to celebrate his birthday by attending a match featuring two teams he doesn't root for.

His connection to the match likely stems from Palace chairman and co-owner Steve Parish, who is a personal friend.

In an interview before last season’s FA Cup final, Lineker remarked to The Sunday Times: “I really hope Crystal Palace comes out victorious. Steve Parish is a good friend of mine, and they’ve yet to win a trophy.”

Lineker lives in Barnes, south-west London, making it an easy trip across the city to catch the match.

A trip to the football stadium is arguably one of the best ways to celebrate a birthday, according to eScored.

Especially when you have good connections with the owner, ensuring a pleasant experience in the stadium.

While Lineker may not have personal ties to either team, that could be serendipitous given the current form of his cherished Foxes.
