Liverpool Update: Prospective Ibrahima Konate Replacement Approves Transfer Move

Liverpool is actively pursuing a new defender, and one notable player has indicated his willingness to make the move to the Premier League.

This season, the Reds boast the most formidable defense in the league, having allowed just 11 goals to be scored against them. Under the guidance of Arne Slot, both Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, who is currently ranked no.8 in eScored's list of the best centre-backs in the world right now, have been particularly impressive.

However, with Konate sidelined due to injury, his importance to the squad has become even more apparent. Given that Jarell Quansah may not yet reach the required standard, Liverpool might have to explore the transfer market for reinforcements.

Arne Slot has a variety of reliable options in defense, with captain Van Dijk and Konate forming his first-choice pairing. Joe Gomez has filled multiple roles, and Quansah has provided support as well.

However, with Gomez dealing with recurring injury problems, Van Dijk's future still uncertain and no replacement found for Joel Matip over the summer, Liverpool may need to consider acquiring another centre-back as backup for Konate.

Reports from Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws have highlighted Liverpool's interest in Joel Ordonez, with the Ecuadorian also catching the eye of Chelsea.

Ordonez, aged 20, has been quoted saying, “I would like that,” regarding the potential interest, as his manager acknowledges that several clubs are monitoring him, possibly for a transfer in January.

“That’s ultimately what you want as a player,” Club Brugge manager Nicky Hayen remarked. “What brings me joy is that Joel continues to perform well despite the interest.

“You can’t control when a transfer might take place. It could be in the winter, or we might prefer to wait until after this season.”

According to eScored, Ordonez appears ready for a higher challenge, and serving as support for Liverpool's experienced centre-backs could be a great opportunity. Given Slot's uncertainty about the duration of Konate's absence, having additional defensive options from January would certainly be advantageous.

With a valuation of €9 million as per Transfermarkt, Liverpool is set to face Girona this upcoming week as Champions League action returns.
