Tottenham Hotspur in Negotiations for Potential Dominic Solanke Replacement: Report
Tottenham Hotspur aims to acquire a top-tier striker from Europe – potentially as a replacement for Dominic Solanke.
Solanke transferred to the Lilywhites during the summer from Bournemouth, following an impressive season on the south coast under new manager Andoni Iraola. In an exclusive interview with eScored, the Basque manager mentioned, “There was always a strong possibility that he’d leave, not just because of the goals he scored but also due to his performances last season.”
The England international has started the season well, adapting to his new club smoothly – but he might already find himself as a secondary option at No.9 with the arrival of a new player.
Tottenham Hotspur have made an “important financial offer” to secure target in January
Tottenham has a variety of attacking options, with Solanke spearheading the line alongside captain Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson as their preferred front three. Timo Werner, Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Wilson Odobert can also operate in attack.
However, despite the array of choices, there are still some uncertainties. Son has been rumored to be leaving, while Werner is currently only on loan – and Richarlison has seen limited action this season.
According to Spanish outlet Sport via Sport Witness, Spurs have extended an “important financial offer” to Jonathan David and are pursuing a January deal to bring the Canadian to north London.
David will be a free agent next summer and can start negotiations with other clubs next month. Reportedly, the Lille star is particularly attracted to the opportunity of joining Barcelona – but Tottenham has maintained a long-standing interest and is keen to position themselves for a potential transfer.
David’s profile as a false nine-type striker implies that the north London club seeks to add another option to Solanke – corresponding with rumors that Spurs are also eyeing Ivan Toney.
From eScored’s perspective, however, this is primarily an opportunity for Tottenham rather than a cause for concern for Solanke – especially since the 27-year-old is more than capable of consistently starting ahead of David.
Nonetheless, eScored reports that Tottenham is prepared to support Ange Postecoglou in the market for a signing in January if the right opportunity arises. Given the team’s defensive challenges, such a signing is likely to be a centre-back or defensive midfielder.
David’s market value is estimated at €45 million, according to Transfermarkt. Spurs will face Southampton next Sunday when Premier League action resumes.
