Real Madrid Unveils Opponents for FIFA Intercontinental Cup Final
Real Madrid will take on Mexican team Pachuca in the 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup final, scheduled for Wednesday evening in Qatar.
and includes all six winners of the continental Champions League (or similar) events, with Madrid competing in this prestigious match this week.
As the winners of the UEFA Champions League, Madrid was confirmed a place in the final, following a first round playoff in September where Al Ain from the UAE triumphed over Auckland City of New Zealand with a score of 6-2.
In the second round, Egypt’s Al Ahly eliminated Al Ain in late October, whereas Brazilian Copa Libertadores champions Botafogo suffered a defeat against Pachuca last Wednesday.
This led to a semi-final matchup between Al Ahly and Pachuca on Saturday, determining the opponent for Madrid in the final at Lusail Stadium.
Following a draw without goals through regulation and extra time, it was Pachuca who secured victory 6-5 in the penalty shootout, earning a spot in the final against Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
While Madrid has encountered various Mexican teams in competitive matches previously, this will mark their inaugural face-off with Pachuca. Both clubs are also set to participate in scheduled for next summer in the United States.
Los Blancos will clash with Pachuca on Wednesday evening before they return to La Liga to face Sevilla in their last match of the calendar year on December 22.
