Mohamed Salah cites Harry Kane to support his claim of media bias against him in football.

Mohamed Salah has highlighted the contrasting media treatment related to his performance compared to that of Harry Kane, asserting that criticisms directed at him during his form slump starkly differ from the coverage for the England captain.

Salah expressed outrage towards manager Arne Slot and the Liverpool management after being left out of the squad for three consecutive matches for the first time, indicating a potential departure from Anfield.

He accused Liverpool of being dismissive, asserting he has become a scapegoat as the club struggles with a poor run, claiming they've secured only four wins in their last 15 matches, losing nine.

Salah criticized his media portrayal amidst a scoring drought—having netted just five times this season following a record-breaking 2024/25 campaign—and cited Kane as an example of how others receive preferential treatment.

“I have been at this club, scoring more than anyone in this generation, since I came to the Premier League,” said the Egyptian after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw at Leeds. “I don’t think anyone has scored more goals and made more assists than me in the Premier League.

“If I am somewhere else, everybody would go to the media and defend the players. I am the only one in this situation.

“Can I give an example? It’s silly but I am sorry. I remember a while ago, Harry Kane was not scoring for 10 games, everyone in the media was like ‘oh, Harry will score for sure’. When it comes to Mo, everyone is like ‘he needs to be on the bench’. I am sorry, Harry!”

Salah matched a Premier League record last season with 47 goal contributions, scoring 29 and assisting 18, but has since lost his starting position amid a poor stretch for the team.

Salah noted he had never been sidelined for two games in a row prior to now, and has sat out the last three matches, not appearing as a substitute in two of them, including the match against Leeds.

The forward feels that his previous successes have been overlooked amid Liverpool's current challenges, expressing frustration at having to combat a negative narrative.

“With respect, I love everyone. I love Haaland, I will talk about him. I am the current top goalscorer in the Premier League (from last season). He is not yet. He is going to win it hopefully and that is fine for him. I love him and he knows that.

“I am top goalscorer, best player, winning the league in such a style, but I am the one who has to defend myself in front of the media and fans.”
