Liverpool edges nearer to Arne Slot successor as manager expresses concerns about club ownership.
Oliver Glasner, the manager linked with Liverpool, has intensified his criticism of Crystal Palace's ownership following their recent loss to Manchester United at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Palace head coach seemed to point fingers at the club's summer spending, highlighting the squad's lack of depth as a reason for the South Londoners dropping their lead against Ruben Amorim's Red Devils.
Oliver Glasner speaks out on Crystal Palace's setbacks
This trend follows Palace's failure to secure a victory in any matches after competing in European play this season.
“I believe this is what we lacked in summer, and I didn't mention it until now, but everything that occurred was fairly obvious.”
“If you are playing for the first time in your club's history in European football, the logical response is to invest rather than hold back, yet we held back,” Glasner stated.
The Austrian manager's future at Selhurst Park remains uncertain, with clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool reportedly interested in the Palace boss.
Liverpool currently finds themselves on a streak of nine defeats from their last 13 matches under Arne Slot, with speculation about the Dutchman's potential dismissal in recent weeks.
“This group of players gives their all every single day, but I feel they haven't received the proper support,” Glasner emphasized.
Many Palace fans have come to terms with the likelihood of losing Glasner soon, particularly due to the absence of significant transfer investment during the summer.
The South London club's spending was modest compared to their Premier League counterparts, with around £50 million invested in incoming players, following the £60m sale of Ebere Eze to Arsenal.
Yeremy Pino, Jaydee Canvoh, Walter Benitez, and Borna Sosa were all signed on permanent transfers, while Christantus Uche joined on loan.
Nevertheless, the new signings have largely yet to make a significant impact on the pitch.
Glasner's captain, Marc Guehi, is also anticipated to depart the club next summer, having nearly signed with Liverpool before a last-minute change on transfer deadline day.
