Igor Thiago Injury Update Ahead of Brentford’s Clash with Arsenal
Our star forward took off over the weekend as a precaution.
Head coach Keith Andrews has revealed his Brentford squad are nursing “a couple of knocks” while we await news on Igor Thiago’s fitness.
On Wednesday, the Bees will make their way across London for a clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Thiago, who’s notched up an impressive 11 goals in 13 league games this season, was replaced in second-half stoppage time during Brentford’s 3-1 victory over Burnley.
Andrews confirmed post-match that the decision to pull Thiago was purely precautionary. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he acknowledged the squad is still dealing with a few fitness concerns.
“We've got a couple of knocks and bruises,” Andrews shared with reporters. “But that’s the price you pay in a match like the one we had at the weekend.”
“We’ve got a few bits and bobs to sort out, but overall, we’re in a good place.”
Thiago has made quite the impression, becoming the fastest Brentford player to reach double figures in the Premier League. His late brace was key in securing the win against relegation-threatened Burnley at the Gtech Community Stadium.
After a debut season marred by injury, Thiago is now thriving under Andrews’ leadership, with Brentford proudly sitting 10th in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old only managed one start last season due to a meniscus injury and a joint infection, hindering his contribution during what was a record-breaking campaign for Brentford.
Following his return to fitness late last season, Thiago has absolutely taken the Premier League by storm this term, helping Brentford punch above their weight under Andrews.
