Hansi Flick emphasizes improvements brought by Lamine Yamal and urges for La Liga’s support
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has confirmed that both Frenkie de Jong and Fermin Lopez will be fit to play against Real Betis this weekend, as the Catalan giants aim to maintain their lead at the top of La Liga. Both players missed Barcelona’s last two victories over Alaves and Atletico Madrid.
Lopez had been sidelined with a muscle injury. His return was expected next week, but he seems ready to return earlier.
“Fermin can play; I’m not sure if he’ll start, but I’m happy to have him back. Dani is a good player, these things happen, and we’ll have to manage it,” he mentioned, following the news that Dani Olmo is out for the remainder of the year. De Jong missed the first match due to personal reasons and the second due to illness.
“I don’t know exactly from the beginning,” Flick said about De Jong’s fitness. “But he was in the whole training, so he can play.”
Flick delighted with Lamine Yamal improvement
The Barcelona manager had previously praised Eric Garcia, and had positive remarks regarding Lamine Yamal’s defensive play.
“We always evaluate players in terms of defence and offence. He’s doing really well; he showed it against Atletico with his intensity in pressing. His training level today was unbelievable. It’s great to see him at Barcelona, because he continuously seeks improvement. He doesn’t fall easily; he pushes forward to beat the next player and the next,” Flick stated.

Flick believes that La Liga officials should enhance protections for the league's standout players.
“There are many players in La Liga who thrive in one-on-one situations, which the fans love. However, we must protect them. Lamine faces fouls where it's clearly unjust. We need to recognize these moments and ensure these players maintain their confidence,” he emphasized.
Flick satisfied with progress since Chelsea defeat
Barcelona recently experienced a significant loss to Chelsea, where Flick's team appeared overmatched. He had promised improvements in the aftermath and expressed satisfaction with current performances.
“I’m very pleased with the team's level following the defeat to Chelsea. I'm confident in my players and believe they've demonstrated that when connected and occupying spaces well, they can perform excellently,” he stated.
Raphinha's return has been viewed as a vital aspect of the team's improvement, and Flick commented on his significance.
“The relationship is strong. Raphinha is crucial for us; I always emphasize his importance, and he showcased this by driving intensity both defensively and offensively. His presence elevates the team's performance,” he remarked.
