Arsenal: Arteta provides updates on Rice and Mosquera injuries as Gunners express anger with Premier League over scheduling –

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has provided updates on Declan Rice and Cristhian Mosquera as they prepare for their match against Aston Villa.

The Gunners face a crucial game this weekend, taking on third-placed Aston Villa.

The north London club is currently unbeaten in 18 games across all competitions, leading the Premier League, advancing in the Carabao Cup, and performing well in the Champions League group stage.

In midweek, Arteta’s team responded to a 1-1 draw with Chelsea by defeating Brentford 2-0 at the Emirates, but they now face injury concerns ahead of the match against Aston Villa.

Both Rice and Mosquera are dealing with issues, and Arteta has not confirmed their availability for the upcoming match.

“Let’s see, we have another training session this afternoon,” Arteta said when asked about Rice’s fitness for the game.

“Every hour is crucial for assessing player availability, and we will decide who travels after that.”

Regarding Cristhian Mosquera, he added: “That’s the one that is more complicated. We will do another test today to see where we stand with him.”

Arteta also stated that Leandro Trossard and William Saliba are nearing returns, confirming: “It is a matter of days for both of them.”

Arsenal have had a short recovery period following Wednesday’s match, leading to frustration about the scheduling of their next game.

‘Arsenal management is furious about the scheduling of the Saturday lunchtime kickoff against Aston Villa, especially after a demanding match on Wednesday night,’ sources indicated on X.

‘It’s December, a month packed with fixtures, and the physical and mental toll on players is immense. They’re pushing the limits, and it’s not just about fatigue; it’s about player welfare.

‘The quick turnaround leaves little time for recovery, and in a league as competitive as the Premier League, that can make all the difference.’

Arteta has acknowledged the need to provide his players with “extra” recovery time during this busy period.

“Whenever it’s possible to help and give players an extra day or hours to fulfill their maximum potential, let’s do it. That’s it.”

“But we are ready for tomorrow’s game, that’s for sure.”
