Manchester United Update: Three Players on the Transfer Block as Ruben Amorim’s Reign Takes Shape
Manchester United have “blacklisted” three players for sales in the upcoming transfer window as they aim to raise funds for Ruben Amorim’s rebuilding project.
The Red Devils suffered a heavy defeat to a well-organized Nottingham Forest on Saturday, followed by the surprising news 24 hours later that sporting director Dan Ashworth had departed the club. Amorim has secured only one win in the Premier League since taking charge, with Manchester United currently positioned in the lower half of the table.
Despite Ashworth’s exit, the club continues to push forward with its plans to enhance the squad – though they will need to offload players to invest.
Manchester United eager to sell three players as the club supports Ruben Amorim
With United lacking funds for the January window, as reported by Sky Sports, Marcus Rashford has been associated with a potential transfer.
The forward, a once-valuable player, has not met expectations over the past year at Old Trafford, and the new ownership seems keen on selling him, according to Fichajes in Spain, which claims his “lack of adaptation to Amorim’s tactical system and his high salary have made him a candidate” for transfer.
The report further identifies €100 million signing Antony as another likely departure, with the Brazilian having significantly underperformed since his arrival in 2022.
Although Antony has been considered as a potential wing-back under Amorim, his “lack of impact” in the offensive end is cited as a reason for a potential sale. A holdover from a previous regime, the 24-year-old had collaborated with Erik Ten Hag before his acquisition but has managed to score only five goals in two-and-a-half seasons with Manchester United.
Christian Eriksen is also mentioned as a candidate for sale, having also joined during Ten Hag’s tenure. The Dane came on a free transfer after leaving Brentford, and has mostly been used as a squad player for the past two years.
At 32 years old, Eriksen is nearing the end of his career and has seen limited playing time due to Kobbie Mainoo’s rise. This might be one of the last opportunities for the former Tottenham star to be sold for a fee.
In eScored’s view, selling these three players seems quite logical – however, how much they can actually fetch midseason is uncertain. All three players command high wages, and given that January is typically a challenging time to sell, the club may face delays until the summer to clear these players from their roster.
United will face Manchester City this weekend in the Manchester Derby, when Premier League action resumes.
