Liverpool’s Arne Slot Takes a Subtle Shot at Manchester United
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has taken a subtle jab at local opponents Manchester United.
The Merseyside team sits atop the Premier League standings, having suffered just one defeat this season and showing consistent form. With a two-goal lead over Chelsea in second place, Liverpool also has a game in hand to play during the festive season.
It hasn’t been smooth sailing for Erik ten Hag and now Ruben Amorim’s squad, as Manchester United currently finds themselves in 13th place. However, Slot couldn’t help but deliver a cheeky remark when asked about United’s transfer expenditures in recent years.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot says the Reds are fortunate to have an influx of academy talent
Before Liverpool’s match against Tottenham on Sunday, Slot commented on the team’s options for rotation and the depth available for cup competitions.
“What made our game at Southampton special, [is] we’ve seen most clubs play with starters in the quarters, only a few with players who don’t always play,” he stated.
“[Manchester] United had players worth £100m, while we relied on academy talents. That’s what sets this club apart; there’s always a place for academy players. Here, if we lose a few players, we look to the Academy.”
Amorim has had to make changes, but it’s noteworthy that Liverpool’s path to the semi-finals was less challenging; Southampton has struggled all season, making Liverpool’s win at St Mary’s quite straightforward.
Nonetheless, Slot appears to be continuing the tradition established by Jurgen Klopp, giving plenty of young players a chance in the first team.
The former Reds boss regularly handed out debuts in the competition and even fielded a youthful side that secured victory against Chelsea in last year’s final.
In FourFourTwo’s perspective, why wouldn’t Slot feel emboldened to comment on Manchester United’s troubles, especially given how his team outclassed the Red Devils at Old Trafford earlier this year?
Liverpool is set to face Tottenham this weekend, while Manchester United will also participate in Premier League action against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
