Manchester United in Talks Over Surprising Marcus Rashford Departure, Barcelona Deal Reportedly Pre-Arranged
Manchester United is considering the sale of Marcus Rashford, with the proceeds aimed at boosting funds for investments in Ruben Amorim’s squad.
The Red Devils have faced a challenging start under the Portuguese manager, suffering another defeat in the Premier League at the hands of Nottingham Forest over the weekend. Rashford has been targeted for scrutiny in both recent matches.
The England international played as the central forward in Amorim’s inaugural match, but as Manchester United transitions to the new manager’s 3-4-3 system, he might find himself on the chopping block.
Manchester United will “listen to offers” for Marcus Rashford, with a potential January departure
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, the club is aiming to part ways with Rashford by the summer at the very least.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the journalist highlighted that the team is even considering allowing the 27-year-old to leave in the middle of the season to recalibrate their squad.
“One of the reasons for discussing a sale: should he depart because of his significant salary, it would alleviate crucial issues in the complex Financial Fair Play framework, thereby granting the Red Devils more flexibility in the transfer window,” Plettenberg elaborated.
Rashford has frequently been linked with moves away from his lifelong club, yet has never been on the verge of a transfer. However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Rashford did agree to a move to Barcelona in 2018.
This information suggests that the forward may be open to exploring a new opportunity if it arises. Despite financial hurdles, Barça might be positioning themselves back as contenders, having discovered methods to raise funds in recent transfer windows.
In eScored’s opinion, while Rashford’s exit is not an immediate concern for United, their willingness to consider offers represents a significant shift, especially given he has never been near leaving.
For Rashford, the moment may have arrived for a new adventure. At 27, he has plateaued, lost his spot in the England team, and could benefit from a fresh start.
Rashford’s market value stands at €60 million, as reported by Transfermarkt. The Manchester Derby is coming up next Sunday, as the Premier League action resumes.
