Manchester City Tackles Midfield Concerns by Targeting Serie A Sensation: Report

Manchester City finds themselves in a challenging situation, having suffered six defeats and recorded just one draw in their last seven matches, putting their season at risk as Christmas approaches.

The injury to Rodri has had a significant effect on Pep Guardiola’s team, with the Spanish midfielder’s absence aligning with a notable dip in performance.

However, there remains an opportunity to rectify the situation in the January transfer window, which could prove vital for Manchester City if they aim to contend for trophies by the season’s end. A singular key signing may be all that’s required, with a prominent Serie A talent being targeted.

Manchester City interested in Tijani Reijnders

As reported by Italian news source Calciomercato, Manchester City is monitoring AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, who has been making waves throughout Europe with his performances for the Rossoneri this season.

A versatile player adept at playing in advanced areas as well as in a deeper midfield role, Reijnders has primarily operated in a double pivot setup for AC Milan this season, alongside an attacking midfielder positioned further ahead.

Despite his deeper positioning, Reijnders has showcased his goal-scoring ability in the 2024/25 season, netting six goals and providing three assists in all competitions, underscoring his importance to the Serie A side. Having settled well into Stefano Pioli’s squad after a full season, he has emerged as one of the team’s crucial players, especially following a strong Euro 2024 stint with the Netherlands.

Nonetheless, with his contract extending until 2028, Manchester City is actively pursuing his signature for either the January transfer window or the summer. Meanwhile, Milan seeks to secure an extended deal with improved terms, yet Premier League interest complicates matters.

The report indicates that he holds a value of at least €50m, while Transfermarkt estimates the 26-year-old’s worth at €30m.

According to eScored, Reijnders aligns perfectly with the type of player who would excel under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. It would be wise for them to consider securing Reijnders’ transfer in January to salvage their season, although an exceptionally lucrative offer would be necessary to convince Milan to part with him mid-season.
